" This WOD has incredible significance and meaning for me. On June 9th 2008 I was in a
head-on collision on 2222. I was rushed to the emergency room for my injuries. I spent 3 weeks in the hospital and
rehabilitation center. In addition to a broken knee, the
car wreck crushed my
optic nerve. As a result I have permanent partial blindness on the left half of my vision. Chris and I spent the next 6 months recovering from both the physical and extreme emotional stress that the accident brought. I began doing Crossfit both as physical and mental therapy. Every time I complete a Crossfit WOD I prove to myself that I have immense physical and mental strength. Even more than I had before the accident.
The significance of the Phoenix WOD is as follows:
3 rounds - I was driving a Mazda 3, whose safety features saved my life
6 man-makers - 6 for the month of June and man-makers because what I went through will make a man out of anyone
9 overhead squats - 9 for the day it happened and OH squats to symbolize the weight I had hanging over my head while going through the grief of losing my vision
22 box jumps - 22 for the road it happened on (2222) and box jumps to symbolize the obstacles I jumped over to return to my normal life.
I am truly honored to be a part of such a wonderful group as the tribe, and am so excited to share this WOD with all of you tomorrow."
